IIWC WPS - PQR Preparation

Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is a written document that provides direction to the welder or welding operator for making production welds in accordance with certain code requirements. The purpose of qualification of a WPS is to determine that the weldments proposed for a given construction project is capable of providing the required properties for its intended application. Welding procedure qualification establishes the properties of the weldments, not the skill of the welder or welding operator. Welding Procedure Qualification Record (WPQR) documents what occurred during welding the test sample and test results of the sample which was made as per WPS explained above. In performance qualification, the basic criterion established for welder qualification is to determine the welder’s ability to deposit sound weld metal. The purpose of the performance qualification test for the welding operator is to determine the welding operator’s mechanical ability to operate the welding equipment. This course trains a student how to draw-up a WPS document for a given project and methods of evaluation and documentation (WPQR) for approval of a weld sample (coupon) created based on the given WPS.
